On 9/11, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) in Colorado Springs, Colorado greatly assisted the Federal Aviation Administration in bringing thousands of commercial airliners out of the sky safely! The fear was that other terrorists may have boarded other airliners and could try to hijack and crash those planes as well! NORAD has been a bi-national Canadian-U.S. effort since the 1950s, created to protect any intrusions into U.S and Canadian airspace from outside North America. Reporter Wes Rodgers was able to gain an EXCLUSIVE interview with Brigadier General Jim Hunter shortly after the 911 attack at the NORAD COMMAND CENTER inside Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs! Brigadier General Hunter was in charge of the NORAD COMMAND CENTER on 911! NORTHERN COMMAND was set up in Colorado Springs , October 1 st , 2002 to assist in the war against terrorism, to facilitate our Homeland Security in a proactive manner and to assist NORAD. NORTHERN COMMAND also assists other first responders in natural disasters when they hit the eastern seaboard, such as hurricanes, major forest fires, floods and earthquakes. NORTHERN COMMAND works closely at all local, state, regional and national agencies regarding these types of disasters when needed.
